Zortrax Introduces Two New Materials for Zortrax Endureal Printers

Zortrax launches new products for use with Zortrax Endureal industrial 3D printers: two complete metal 3D printing kits, Zortrax Full Metal Package 17-4 PH and Zortrax Full Metal Package 316L, and low melt VICTREX PAEK AM 200 (filaments) . , which have a lower melting point than PEEK and can be extruded at lower temperatures). Each all-metal Zortrax kit includes the essentials plus BASF Ultrafuse 316L or BASF Ultrafuse 17-4 PH, BASF Forward AM metal polymer filament. VICTREX AM 200 Low Melt PAEK Filament is a high performance polymer from the same thermoplastic family as Z-PEEK that delivers similar and in some areas even better 3D printing results.
Zortrax All Metal Package 316L includes BASF Ultrafuse 316L, a filament that is 80% 316L stainless steel and 20% polymer. 316L is a surgical grade stainless steel containing over 10% chromium. This chemical element forms a thin coating on the surface of the model when in contact with oxygen, protecting the model from corrosion. Parts printed on BASF’s Ultrafuse 316L 3D printer have a tensile strength of up to 561 MPa, a yield strength of 251 MPa, an elongation at break of up to 53%, and a non-magnetic microstructure. All of these properties make this filament ideal for 3D printing complex end-use parts, automotive parts, medical devices, chemical piping or valves, tool and fixture components, and various functional prototypes.
Zortrax All Metal Pack 17-4 PH contains BASF Ultrafuse 17-4 PH, an industrial composite filament consisting of 80% 17-4 hardened steel and 20% polymer. Models 3D printed from this filament have a tensile strength of up to 1004 MPa, a yield strength of 764 MPa, an elongation at break of up to 4%, and a magnetic microstructure. The BASF Ultrafuse 17-4 PH can be used to print components requiring significant hardness such as chemical piping or valves, end-use durable metal parts, medical device components, automotive components, tools and fixtures, and functional prototypes.
Both Zortrax Full Metal Kit 316L and Zortrax Full Metal Kit 17-4 PH contain all the other components that are critical for seamless metal 3D printing. In each package, users will find: BASF Ultrafuse Support Layer, a special support material that ensures printed parts achieve the desired geometry during 3D printing and post-processing, Magigoo Pro Provides reliable adhesion and easy removal of printed parts, an additional hot-end module with brass nozzles for Zortrax Endureal and the authority for professional post-processing at Elnik, BASF’s trusted partner in Germany. In it, the 3D printed part goes through the critical sintering and debinding process to produce all the characteristic steels.
Another innovation from Zortrax Endureal is VICTREX AM 200 PAEK Low Melt Filament, a high performance polymer that belongs to the same thermoplastic family as Z-PEEK. The most important properties of VICTREX AM 200 FIL include low viscosity for easier nozzle flow, slow crystallization rate for strong interlaminar bonding, increased z-tensile strength, high dimensional stability and minimal warping.
“VICTREX AM 200 is stronger than PEEK in the Z direction and comparable in the X and Y directions. All other parameters are the same as PEEK. However, PAEK is easier to print. This high performance resin is suitable for heavy-duty 3D printing. An excellent choice for parts that can replace metal parts in the aerospace, marine, advanced engineering, or petroleum industries, PAEK can also be successfully used to 3D print structural parts, tool elements, structural frameworks, or parts that must withstand high temperatures,” said Zortrax, said Materials Development Lead David Piastowski.
